Freya made a face as she cooked dinner, slowly. She was working with a frown on her face and so when Elijah went into the kitchen, he almost immediately left.
“Who is home?” She asked him, as if barely realized she hadn’t seen anyone in
almost an hour.
Elijah shrugged, and went to sit down, making note of everything he knew.
“Finn’s not home, he says he has homework and needs to study at the library-”
It was such a lie, they both knew it, Finn always found any excuse not to be at
home. He hated having to be responsible for his younger siblings and so usually
Freya relied on her 19 year old brother to help keep things running.
She loved her younger siblings, but she was 23 and at some point wanted to
start her OWN life. It had especially gotten harder since she’d started working
more. It wasn’t exactly fair that her parents had decided to ditch them and
assume things wouldn’t be a complete shit show. Their mother had
disappeared almost 5 years ago and even their father had left almost two years
ago on a ‘business trip’ and the only signal they got of his existence was the
monthly deposit the man made.
“And the kids?” Freya asked. It was STRANGE that she couldn’t hear arguments or
straight up yelling.
“Henrik has chess club today, and Niklaus…” Elijah made a face, realizing he
didn’t know where the 14 year old was. “I’m not sure. Kol and Rebekah are
upstairs with Roy....maybe I should check on them?” The two were already
the biggest troublemakers, and it never made things easier when their hoodlum
friend was around.
"You know
I don't want Rebekah upstairs with Roy," she couldn't help frowning.
"Do they have the door open?"
He bit his
tongue not 'explain' that HE had just gotten home a few minutes ago, had only
had time to drop off his backpack, and all he wanted was 5 minutes of peace.
Instead he got up.
"Yes, the
door was open... I'll go check on them." He climbed up the stairs and
stood at the doorway of Rebekah’s room. She was on the floor, face up, Kol was
on the bed and Roy was on a bean bag chair, they are immediately got squirrely when
they saw him.
“...What are you guys up to?” Elijah asked.
"Why do
you enter as if you owned the place?" Rebekah stood up, frowning at him.
"Get out of my room, Elijah, this Is not for old people."
He stared at
her, unimpressed. " I guess we can ask Roy to leave, if you're going to
forget who you're speaking to."
"My nosy
older brother." Who the hell else? "And Roy Is not leaving. He's
staying the night; Ollie spoke with Freya."
“Is that so? I don’t
believe you. You’re grounded.’ Elijah ‘reminded’.
"Finn said
we're not grounded anymore," Kol cut in. Their older siblings were always
contradicting each other.
Elijah let out
a frustrated growl at that, he didn't know why the hell he even bothered if
Finn was always giving them enough leeway to not take seriously what he and
Freya had to say. "I don't care what he said, he's not here, and if you
two are going to be disrespectful brats, Roy isn't staying."
"Freya
said yes, and stop being an ass to our friend," Rebekah's request Made him
look at the boy.
"...I...I
...can go home." Roy admitted, though it'd be lonely as fuck because it
was Friday and Oliver had gone to pick up Connor, and then they'd probably go
have dinner with Oliver's mother.
"...No.
You can't leave by yourself," Elijah was already dialing Oliver.
"No, it's
fine, it's just a 10 minute bus ride...what are you doing? PLEASE don't call
Ollie." The child rambled, making Kol and Rebekah glare daggers at Elijah.
"Oliver,
good evening."
“He’s such a
fucking ass- sorry” Kol couldn’t help apologizing, as Roy tried to look for the
nearest exit.
“Good evening…” Oliver had answered on the other end, a bit confused by the call
he was getting.
"Is
everything alright with your family?"
"....My
family? Yes? Why?"
"Good.
See, Kol and Rebekah are grounded and I am leaving for the Weekend. I am sorry
Freya made a mistake, but we can't watch Roy right now."
“...Is Roy at your house?” He was going to
kill the kid...
"He
certainly isn't with you." Elijah was really good at sounding polite and
extremely judgy at the same time. "I'll put you in speaker," he did.
Roy immediately
tensed up. “I’m going home right now...” he already had his backpack on.
They all heard Oliver sigh on the other line. “... We can go pick you up, if
you want? I just...” he cursed and they all heard the sound of a crying
toddler.
"I can
drop him off." Elijah offered, "Wouldn't want to interrupt you."
"I will be there in 20 minutes. We were going to get dinner, Roy, remember
I told you?" Oliver's version of 'why are you not home?'
“... You said
Moira wanted to see Connor and was making dinner...” somehow Roy hadn’t counted
himself as invited.
"Yes, and
it's almost dinner time." Why was Roy somewhere else without permission? When
the man got no response, he sighed again, clearly upset. “Roy, you know you’re
supposed to take the school bus home, why is this a reoccurring topic between
us?” He let his anger show a bit.
"Why
doesn't he just pick Roy up from school?" Rebekah rolled her eyes.
“Hush.” Elijah
frowned at her, not necessarily being on anyone’s side. He let Oliver and Roy
go back and forth a bit and then put his phone away when Oliver said goodbye.
Rebekah rolled
her eyes.
"Such an
ass, Elijah."
"What's
going on in here?" Freya had gone upstairs, exasperated of calling for
them. She arrived just in time to see Elijah snatch Rebekah’s phone, sick of
the attitude.
“Elijah’s being a prick.” Kol explained.
"Why? What
did you do?" She actually asked Elijah.
He quirked a
brow at her. “Change your question.”
"Why are
the kids calling you a prick?" 'Change your question' what the hell...
“Kol is calling
me that because he wants to lose his phone too.” He extended a hand towards the
scrappy 13 year old.
"Why are
you picking on them?"
“You know what
Freya? You want to deal with them, have fun. Finn has the right idea.” He bowed
out.
"Hey!
Where the hell are you going?!"
“I’m never get
stand here and argue with you. You know damn well I’m just trying to help but
If you want to constantly question me, then I’d rather go have dinner with
Hayley.”
"ELIJAH!"
Freya was completely done, following him downstairs.
By the time
Oliver arrived to get his kid, he was surprised by the quietness of the house.
He let the toddler in his arms ring the doorbell, which of course meant that it
got pressed 8 times before someone answered the door.
"Hey,"
Klaus Mikaelson had arrived home about five minutes ago... Just to find it
completely empty.
Oliver didn’t
even attempt a smile. “I’m here to pick Roy up.”
"The
school Is 15 minutes from here."
“Your brother
called me and said he was here.”
"Then my
brother pranked you." The boy was not Oliver's friend or anything, he had
no need to listen or help with his problems.
“Is Roy here or
not?!” He yelled, making his son start to cry.
"Go yell
at your own damn house," Niklaus didn't appreciate the disrespect,
slamming the door on the prick's face. He had no idea where Roy was, that was
supposed to be Oliver's job.
Oliver rolled his eyes and wished he hadn’t
taken Roy’s phone away. He called Freya.
However, he was
just notified the line was in use.
Freya had
indeed Made a very long call since Elijah had left. It had been so upsetting
she had gotten into her car right away and drove off with the phone in her
hand.
When Kol,
Rebekah and Roy returned to the house, they were first greeted by Oliver on the
steps of the porch. “I’ve been waiting for 15 minutes.”
"Hi,
dad," the change on Oliver's eyes was pretty clear.
“Come here.”
Roy did walk
towards him, though cautiously in case he needed to run.
“Do you want to
tell me why you’re not at home right now?” Oliver grabbed his arm and
whispered.
"Because
you were going to dinner with your mom, and I was hungry." And Rebekah and
Kol always let him eat there at their house.
“Who the fuck
gave you permission?” He tightened his grip.
Roy tensed
immediately, kind of remembering his dad's drunk version.
"...
You're hurting my arm, and I just wanted to eat."
"We're
eating at Moira's. I TOLD you that." Oliver clearly disapproved of the
kid's actions. And friends. And attitude. Though he did let go of Roy's arm. Connor
lit up at seeing his brother, hugging him immediately.
"You
didn't tell me to go."
“We weren’t
leaving you behind. Get in the car, we’re late.”
"Your mom
would love to leave me behind.” Roy couldn't help muttering, while going to the
stupid car with Connor.
The two Mikaelson
kids just rolled their eyes, though luckily for them Finn arrived not too much
later, with Henrik in tow.
