What's left behind, chapter 2

Rebekah ran to say hi to her brothers, looking up at Finn a moment later.

"I love you very very much."

“... What do you need?” He asked, but was amused.

"I have a Photoshoot tomorrow..."

He rolled his eyes. “Ask Elijah. Did anyone make dinner?”

Rebekah grabbed his hand and hugged His arm.

"...I don't know where or Freya are."

Finn frowned and called Elijah immediately. He was NOT staying alone with the kids.

“Kol, can you order a pizza, bud?” After finally getting Elijah to answer and after a tense argument Elijah was heading home.

"Finn, are you taking me tomorrow?" Rebekah insisted. "I don't want Elijah to go. He never lets me wear the nice clothes." She said It like It was a tragedy.

“I don’t want to be in the middle of it.” Really, he didn’t care. “Ask Freya then.”

"Please," Rebekah even kissed his cheek.

“…Fine, Whatever. Sure”

Rebekah was already smiling at him when Elijah entered the house.

"Sure what?" Elijah took off his coat.

“Where the fuck were you?” Finn ignored the question.

"Out. What's the problem?"

“The problem is that no one was home!”

"You are home. What are you talking about?"

“But I wasn’t, smartass. I’m going upstairs. Tip the pizza boy.”

"Pizza? I don't like them eating junk food."

“Well you should have been here.” He went upstairs.

"You can cook too, you know?!"

“Why are you yelling?” Henrik frowned at him.

"I just... Nevermind. Let's sit... Where are Freya and Niklaus?"

“... I don’t know. Finn and I just got here.” The kid sat at the kitchen table to start his homework.

"Well, come on, take a seat. We're eating the disgusting pizza." Elijah got some plates out.

“No...” the child frowned.

"I don't recall asking."

The kid made a face but obeyed, and eventually Elijah was eating with 3 cranky kids. “Where’s Niklaus?”

"Not here," Rebekah grabbed another slice.

“I SEE that Rebekah! Where is he?”

"He didn't say."

However, Niklaus didn't seem to care much about Elijah's concern. Hours later the boy hadn't returned any call or replied to any text. Elijah and even Finn were angry about it by then.

"You know, I could handle your situation if you'd allow me." Kol couldn't help muttering to his little brother, taking advantage of the current distraction. He knew Henrik had said no tons of times, but still... "Or Nik."

Yes, their older brother had broken a bone from one of Kol's classmates a couple of years ago and Henrik didn't even want him to know he was having some ‘trouble’ socializing at school, but...

“No thanks.” The kid frowned.

"Why not?" Kol scowled a bit.

“Because it’s not any of your business!”

"It totally is. I mean, there's no need to harm Anyone." He could Just scare them really bad.

“...Really?”

"Yes, of course, I’m not a savage."

“Alright,” The kid smiled and hugged him.

"I'll go to drop you off to school on Monday."

The kid frowned. “Well... can’t I just think about it?”

"...Yes, but there's no need to worry. I will not hit anyone."

“What’s that?” Elijah finally paid them mind.

"What's what?" Kol replied, while His eldest sister finally decided to reappear.

“Who are you not going to hit?”

"No one, I don't hit people." Most of the time.

"And where were you?" Finn immediately questioned His sister, not happy at all after the discussion he had had with Elijah about Niklaus' whereabouts.

“Out. Why are we having pizza for dinner? Where’s Nik?”

"Because there was no food When we arrived and the children were alone. Besides, we do not know where he is or why isn't he picking up His phone."

“There’s food in the fridge you just had to stick it in the oven... did he say anything before he left?”

"We didn't see him, Freya," was she dumb or what?

Elijah’s phone, however, interrupted the conversation.

“Is it Niklaus?”

"...We might have to go to the police station." Elijah tried to remain calm.

“What? Why?!”

"... Vandalism. Although I’m sure there has been a mistake." He couldn't help adding.

“Let’s go.” She frowned and grabbed her keys.

"You might want to calm down. Who's staying with the children?"

“Finn can stay. Or you.”

"Finn, Niklaus or the children?"

Finn rolled his eyes. Neither. “I’ll stay with the kids.”

"...Fine. Don't leave."

“Let’s just go, Elijah!” Freya hurried him.

"Do you have the custody papers?" He followed her into the car.

“Of course, what else did the police say?”

"That we'll have to pay a fee."

“What did he vandalize?”

"A wall in Downtown."

“... maybe you need to pay more attention to him.”

"Me?" He was the one that paid attention to ALL the children.

“Yes.”

"Excuse me, I am the one that does that."

“As do I.”

"Well, not as much as me."

She rolled her eyes and parked.

"What, Freya? What?"

“I do so much and you never recognize that.”

"I do, but I spend more Time with them."

“Because I’m working now!”

"I am not saying otherwise, just stating that I give them all the possible attention."

“So are you going to deal with this?”

"Deal how, Freya? He doesn't give a damn about what we say anymore."

“He’ll listen to you.” She assured.

"He hasn't in almost a year... Let's just go get him before cps shows up."

“You need to handle it the way you would with Kol. Or I guess I could try calling Dad...” Again.

Elijah actually laughed out loud.
"Please, don't be ridiculous." Their father was, not oficially, out of their lives. "Let's just go get him."

"Fine." She got out of the car.

It wasn’t exactly fun to party for damages and Freya lectured the boy the entire ride home. “YOU are covering those charges, brother.”

Klaus actually rolled his eyes.
"Sure, let me give you all my salary," all that for a painted wall? What a scandal.

“You get an allowance.” She frowned.

"Don't have any anymore." He'd spent It all in a birthday trip the previous weekend.

“And you won’t get any more until that is paid off. What were you thinking?”

"It's just art."

“Niklaus, you have canvases at home for a reason.” Elijah interrupted.

"So I won't disturb a stupid wall nobody cares about?"

“Obviously someone did care.”

"Elijah, let's just drop It?"

“Let’s not. Go upstairs... we can continue the conversation there.” He said as Freya parked the car.

"I’m going to my room to get in bed because I’m tired. You two can talk somewhere else." The boy actually headed upstairs while Elijah groaned, not exactly knowing what to do.

"...Just go inside already." Freya would keep calling. She dialed over and over for almost an hour. But there was no answer. Though she did leave 5 voicemails.

Meanwhile Elijah didn’t know what to do with Niklaus. It was normally so easy to count on him, but lately he was acting just like Kol- or worse.

"It was just a painting, no Big deal," the boy was with his little siblings.

“Are you in trouble?” Kol quirked a brow.

"In trouble with who?" he smiled, as if finding It funny.

His siblings actually found that annoying, especially Kol, who would have definitely gotten in trouble for pulling that stunt. “That’s so unfair, you just do whatever you want.”

"Well, It was no Big deal."

“Whatever, get out of my room.”

"Why are you being such an ass?"

“You’re the ass!” He pushed his brother out. Stupid Nik.

"I am not, did nothing to you, jerk!"

“GET OUT!”

"Whatever, you're being a dick." Niklaus glared before heading to his room.

Kol managed to throw a book his way, but the teenager closed the door just in time. Asshole...

“Why are you throwing books?!” Elijah had just arrived to see the scene.

"He's an ass! I hate this family!" Kol was angry now.

“Do NOT yell. What’s going on?” Elijah was not impressed.

"Get out of my room," the kid was frowning.

“Change the attitude, NOW.”

Kol just slammed the door shut on his brother's face, who immediately went for a drill to take the door off it’s hinges.

"What are you supposed to be doing?" Finn had just wanted to go get a glass of water.

“What Does it look like?”

"Like you're losing your damn mind."

“He’s losing the door if he’s gonna slam it in my face.”

"Isn't that a little too much?"

“What do you need, Finn?”

"I was going to get some water… Why do you even bother so much? Kol and Niklaus are... Like this." Wild, ruthless, disrespectful...

“Well, I’m certainly not going to allow it.” He took the door off, ignoring Kol’s expression.

"Elijah, what the hell! Niklaus is the one that just got arrested," Finn frowned at the action.

He really didn’t agree with the way his siblings went about things, he had never and would never punish his siblings- he didn’t think it was his place, and it simply wasn’t in his personality. However, he did find it unfair how punishments were never quite congruent.

“No, but he’s the one throwing books and yelling and being disrespectful!” Elijah tried to ignore Finn.

"I suppose Niklaus respected you so much when you spoke to him."

"Elijah, what the hell is going on?" Freya frowned too.
"Let's go out," Finn rolled his eyes, but grabbed Kol, Rebekah and Henrik. Maybe they could just go around for a car ride.

“Nothing is going on, there’s too many people in this house, that’s what’s going on!”

"Well, get a bigger one if you don't like It!" She replied completely annoyed at him as Finn actually left with the children.
